Designing for Compliance: Optimizing Hand Sanitizer Dispenser Placement in Open Bay Treatment Areas and Emergency Units
Description:
Using Emory University Midtown Hospital as the case study, this explorative empirical study employs a non-intrusive observational research design to explore spatial and procedural strategies to optimize hand sanitizer dispenser placement (HSD) in the Emergency Department and in the Pre-Op and PACU treatments bays in the Surgical Department.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how the built environment and workflow patterns influence hand hygiene performance.
Identify key barriers to effective hand sanitizer dispenser access and utilization, based on empirical observations and nurse feedback.
Finding and applying published research and case studies to new challenges.
