Crash Cart Supply Optimization – A Journey on Utilizing Staff Feedback & Reducing Cognitive Load
Description:
Life and death during a code blue is dependent on the knowledge base and efficiency of the code team. Deficiencies were noted by those that participated in code blue events such as locating critical pharmaceuticals and supplies and lack of optimal crash cart organization. Thus, this project focused on crash cart optimization and organization of supplies, layout, labeling, and contents using Lean Six Sigma methods. The result led to improved emergency response efficiency and reduced cognitive burden on staff during a Code Blue Event.
Learning Objectives:
Describe how Lean Six Sigma and 5S methodology can be applied to optimize clinical equipment organization.
Explain the operational and safety benefits of standardizing crash cart supplies and labeling.
Design a sustainable crash cart review process that engages multidisciplinary stakeholders.
