Designing a Zero-Delay cEEG Pathway
Description:
Delayed EEG setup and interpretation create treatment delays and longer stays. We convened physicians, nurses, EEG leaders and technologists, and bed placement to co-design a reliable pathway: bed-priority rules, standardized EMR order sets, machine availability detection process, enterprise-wide room mapping strategies, nursing communication protocols, and a daily visual huddle. Measures included safe report reduction, initiation and discontinuation order frequency, and % EEGs within 12 hours; balancing measures tracked overtime and routine-EEG delays. We share tools, control charts, and a sustainability plan for spread.
Learning Objectives:
Apply standard DMAIC principles to large-scale, cross-functional process improvement across healthcare systems
Demonstrate ability to develop workshop/rapid improvement event tools and exercises to achieve desired results
