Examining Disparities in Reported Care Experiences of Children Enrolled in Medicaid Managed Care Plans
Description:
This presentation examines disparities in patient-reported experiences of care among children enrolled in Medicaid managed care organizations. Using 2019 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey data, we analyzed how race, ethnicity, and geographic region influence composite measures and overall ratings of care. Results show that racial and ethnic minority groups consistently reported less favorable experiences, with geographic differences also observed across U.S. Census divisions. Findings highlight the need for policymakers and health leaders to design targeted strategies that address inequities in access, quality, and patient experience within Medicaid managed care.
Learning Objectives:
Explain disparities in patient experience of care among children enrolled in Medicaid managed care, focusing on differences across racial and ethnic groups.
Describe how survey-based composite measures can be used to evaluate patient-reported experiences in Medicaid populations.
Distinguish structural and social factors that contribute to inequities in access and quality of care for children with Medicaid coverage.
