Integrating Lean Six Sigma (LSS) and the Theory of Constraints (TOC) to better facilitate Health Care Systems Transformation
Description:
This will be a presentation of research being conducted at the Industrial Engineering program at NYU’s Tandon School of Engineering and work being done at NYU Langone (Ranks No. 1 in New York & No. 3 in the Nation) to both understand how to integrate the latest research in business transformation and continuous improvement methodologies in health care service settings and what we learned in applying an integrated LSS and TOC framework in two areas of the NYC Langone hospital system.
Learning Objectives:How the integration of the Theory of Constraints (TOC) into the Lean Six Sigma (LSS) Methodology provides deeper insights in how to leverage LSS to better integrate both capacity and demand management
How TOC and LSS can be applied in health care systems. Most of the research and practice has been focused on traditional manufacturing and supply chain settings. This will provide a useful overview of an approach to apply these important methodologies in a health care setting
The importance of integrating change management practices in business transformation and continuous improvement settings. This is especially true in health care settings where you are working with highly educated and accomplished ‘operators’ (doctors) who have significant personal investment In the existing practices
