Automate! Automate! Automate! - Exploring the Use of Microsoft Power Automate within Healthcare: A Pilot Study at Shepherd Center

This presentation outlines an exploratory project undertaken at Shepherd Center to evaluate the effectiveness of Microsoft Power Automate in automating routine and complex healthcare tasks. This ongoing effort sought to identify both successful applications and areas where automation proved challenging, providing insights into its potential and limitations in a healthcare setting.

After attending this session, attendees will be able to identify the types of healthcare processes that can be effectively automated using Microsoft Power Automate and understand the common challenges.

Attendees will gain insights into how to design exploratory pilot projects that test new technologies within healthcare settings.

Attendees will learn how to evaluate automation outcomes to determine whether further investment in technology is warranted for their organization.

Authors

Kashun Davis is an Industrial Engineer, and BI Analyst, who holds an MBA and a Master's in IT from the University of Maryland, and a B.S. in Industrial & Systems Engineering from Morgan State University. With 15+ years in healthcare consulting, analytics & process improvement, he's skilled in Python, R, SQL, Excel, Tableau, and PowerBI. Currently, a Senior Process Improvement Consultant at Shepherd Center in Atlanta, Kashun has also impacted MedStar Washington Hospital in D.C. and M+A Matting in Lagrange, GA through advanced data analytics, project management, consulting, and process improvement. He is also a certified Tableau Professional, Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, and an alum of the Empowerment Fellow program at “Data Science For All.” 

Meena Iyer currently serves as the Manager of Quality and Outcomes at Shepherd Center, bringing over 20 years of experience in healthcare and manufacturing areas. Applying innovative and practical solutions to difficult challenges and an opportunity to impart knowledge and expertise to individuals at all levels makes her day worthwhile. Meena also manages the Quality Improvement Early Professional and Quality Improvement Champion program at Shepherd.  She serves as a facilitator in various patient safety workgroups. As an Industrial Engineer and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Meena is passionate about process optimization using data and lean methodologies to achieve patient safety and staff satisfaction results.
