Streamlining Care : Implementing 5S for Optimal OBGYN Order Sets
Description:
Piedmont has several Clinical Governance Councils (CGCs) that are responsible for setting goals and implementing work to improve overall Quality and Safety per service line. Every three years, the CGC reviews all order sets related to its dedicated service line to make updates on best practice guidelines and new technology/research. The OBGYN CGC approached its first order set review to revamp, combine, and remove order sets. The intention was to create and update order sets to mimic the patient's needs best as they move through their hospital stay.
The CGC began with over twenty-four individual order sets. Through the review process they were able to combine five order sets to create one new one. Additionally, created nine brand new order sets, and deleted eight existing order sets.
Learning Objectives:Recognizing the value of standardizing clinical care across health systems.
Understanding how to engage various stakeholder groups in the design and review process.
