HVAC Coil Transport Cart Redesign
Project Overview:
Due to an increase in customer demand in our larger Residential HVAC systems, a redesign of the transportation carts was required. An increase in ergonomic strain injuries, as well as quality issues arose due to the increase of demand, specifically when it came to the human-cart interaction. Our goal was to reduce ergonomic strain (zero injuries) and reduce scrap. The tranpsportation carts used previously were a one size fits all type. The new carts were made specifically for our largest 4R30 coils, so that we could fully accomodate for their geometry. They were designed in a way so that the coils are always in the ergonomic neutral zone, and match the majority of our conveyor heights, reducing the ammount of times an employee needs to pick up a coil. The cart design was successful with reducing our ergonomic scores and a significant scrap decrease was found.
